How do we know what content to recreate? Ever noticed how everyone tells us to look at our previous content to see what performed well and do more content like that? How can we determine what content will do well again?
Let’s look at my content:
Below is a screenshot of two different reels. The first one (left) is a funny, joking one about design with quite a strong hook and the other (right) is a talking video all about brand consistency.
Which one of these reels performed the best? Which one did my audience prefer? Which one should I choose to recreate and ensure it will perform well again

The first one had over 24k views and the second has less than 10k. The first also has way more reach with over 800 likes, whereas the second had just over 400 likes.

If I was going to choose one to recreate, it would be the second one. All because of one, really insightful analytic.

Profile activity.
The “follows’ section at the bottom of your insights tells you how many people saw your reel and clicked follow while watching it, or visited your profile and followed you directly after seeing the reel.
In the first reel, 13 people followed me after seeing it. But in the second, 35 people followed.
The way this works is so interesting. We all know IG has an algorithm. You get suggestions based on the content you’ve interacted with. It’s the same for your viewers too. When they press follow, it’s kinda like telling the algorithm that they liked it and asking it to show more content like this.
That’s the secret. People pressed follow based on one reel. They followed you for this content because they want to see more like it. They’re expecting more like this.
So now, when I’m planning my content I go through each reel from my feed recently and see which ones had the most profile activity. Now I know, my most recent, engaged community liked this.
Now of course, it’s important to nurture your current audience. This is where the other insights come in.
Your most engaged followers, what are they commenting? Which posts are they commenting on? What’s getting the conversation started?
Start looking at your own behaviour when interacting with others to understand each metric. I personally only comment on stuff that I really like. I only save stuff I wanna go back to later meaning this content was helpful to me. I’m sure you can relate.
Once you understand how we behave with each interaction, it becomes easier to know what your audience wants from you
